Welcome to Moose's Motorcycle Pages
1954 Cyclemaster
Very popular in the 1950's these motor wheels were produced in large numbers by EMI in Chertsey, Surrey. The entire engine, transmission and fuel tank are built into a wheel that is simply slotted into a standard bicycle frame. Simple handlebar controls are provided - a lever throttle and a clutch.
This example was purchased complete from Rye Autojumble about four years ago. It had clearly given its previous owner many years of service since virtually every moving part in the engine had worn out. The BSA cycle had survived remarkably well. New mudguards, a replacement saddle and a good clean up was all it needed.
Now fully overhauled, this little machine enjoys the occasional Sunday run to the local paper shop, and an annual outing to Ardingly Showground.
Performance: The 32cc two-stroke engine can push cycle and well-fed rider along at about 25MPH returning nearly 300MPG.
Austin 10 and NSU Quickly
Don't know much about the car but the NSU had a rebuild and that ghastly paint job about 7 years ago.
Performance: About what you'd expect, really.
Norton Commando
Ex Nigerian Police, looks much better in Red. Any part that could be reached with a big hammer was beaten with a big hammer.
Loads of new parts including most of the engine, gearbox, forks, carbs, wheels, tax disc holder...
OK Rod, so how much is actually original then, eh?
Performance: Jolly noisy and much better than my Matchless.
Norton Rotaries (and BMW)
Perhaps Norton's finest?
Performance: Good job the police don't have them any more.
Under final testing:
Replacement Electronic Ignition Unit for the Commander model.
Lancashire Boiler
Performance: Makes a mean Hot Pot.
Lister D
Performance: Sporting overhead valves and water cooling this lump has a cc to weight ratio of 1:1 so that makes it a hernia provoking 350 Lbs.
Why restore it ? So's when we can't ride the bikes any more, we can sit under a mid brunswick green sunshade all weekend on the show field drinking beer.
